Andrew Jonathan Means (born September 11, 1986 in Avon Lake, Ohio) is a former baseball player and wide receiver for the Indiana Hoosiers. He was a prospect in the 2009 NFL Draft after declaring following his junior year. He was also drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. He attended Avon Lake High School. Means is currently playing for the Single A Advanced Bakersfield Blaze.

Born to Doug and Judy Means on September 11, 1986, Andrew Means played baseball and football at Avon Lake High School in Avon Lake, Ohio.[1] As a senior in 2005, he posted a .431 batting average, .487 on-base percentage and .637 slugging percentage while recording five home runs and 34 runs.[1] He also went 35-for-35 on stolen base attempts, including a steal of home plate.[1] Means was named first-team all-conference, All-Lorain County and all-district following his junior and senior seasons.[1]
As a junior wide receiver at Avon Lake in 2004, Means caught 22 passes for 411 yards and seven touchdowns as his team went 15-0 and won its first state championship in football.[2] He caught 24 passes for 597 yards as a senior in 2005, earning first-team All-Lorain County, first-team All-District, and first-team All-Ohio honors.[2]
Means began his collegiate baseball career at Indiana University in 2006, starting 40 games in right field and one in left field.[1] In 46 total games as a freshman, Means hit .301 with three triples, 16 runs, 16 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in 18 attempts.[1]
Means started all 52 games in which he played for the Hoosiers as a sophomore in 2007, leading the team in batting average (.369), runs scored (32) and stolen bases (27).[1] He was caught stealing just three times.[1] On March 20, he was named Big Ten Player of the Week after hitting .500 with eight runs and eight stolen bases over a five-game span.[1] Following the season, he was named second-team All-Big Ten.[1]
As a junior in 2008, Means played in 59 games for the Hoosiers and hit .357 with 12 doubles, eight triples, two home runs, 72 runs, 32 RBI and 33 stolen bases in 39 attempts.[3] Also, named first team All-Big Ten following Junior Season.
Following his junior season, Means was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.[3] He finished his collegiate career with 157 games played and a .348 batting average, 203 hits, 120 runs scored and 78 runs batted in.[3] He stole 76 bases in 87 attempts for an 87.3 success rate.[3]
As a true freshman Indiana University in Bloomington, Means was redshirted and sat out the 2005 season.[2] In 2006, caught he 20 passes for 263 yards and one touchdown.[2]
Means appeared in 13 games for the Hoosiers as a redshirt sophomore in 2007. His 559 receiving yards ranked second on the team behind James Hardy while his 48 receptions ranked second on the team behind Hardy and Ray Fisher.[2][4]
Prior to his junior season in 2008, Means was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list.[2] He went on to start all 11 games in which he appeared, catching 34 passes for 450 yards and one touchdown.[2] His lone touchdown of his Junior season came on a 43-yard reception against Wisconsin.[2]
On January 11, 2009, Means announced he would forego his senior season and declare for the 2009 NFL Draft.[5] He finished his college football career with 102 receptions for 1,272 yards and two touchdowns.[2] He became the 14th player in school history to conclude his career with over 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards.[2]
Means was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds organization in the 11th round (329th overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.[3] He spent his first season with the organization playing for the Billings Mustangs of the rookie league (short season single A) in 2008, appearing in 22 games, all as the lead off hitter, hitting .231 with a double, a triple, three home runs and six stolen bases in as many attempts.[3]
For the 2009 baseball season, Andrew began A ball for the Dayton Dragons.
